VW's Types 3 And 4 On The Web

The Type 3 Home

www.vwtype3.org
A fascinating site that, once past the black and flame red home page, takes you through a thorough walk through of all you would want to know about the type 3. There is a breath of information here, from the basics (what is a type 3 and the 3 distinct versions that went into production) as well as some interested design studies and more obscure production cars from Brazil, to technical info about the engine and other need-to-know bits about this car. I haven't gone over the whole site yet, and it has some interesting links that will provide me with more surfing over the winter months.

The VW Type 3 & 4 Club

The British VW type 3 & 4 club's page offers photo galleries, technical info and club info / events as well as contacts for the club and other web based sites. A great site to tap in to the clubs network of help, advice and knowledge about all things type 3 & 4.

Notchback Owners of North America

A well presented and very detailed site totally dedicated to the Notchback. There is a lot to see here, including photo galleries, rare add-ons to the type 3, restoration info, type 3 toys and a host of historical info and literature. Again this is also a club, which offers its own merchandise, contacts and events (but unfortunately no pics of the shop regalia).

Type 34 Karmann Ghia Registry

To be honest, before surfing these pages I didn't really know the difference between a type 3, type 4 or the Karmann type 3 Ghia, the type 34. This page is solely dedicated to the "other Ghia" and provides a wealth of information - including its history, and accompanied by plenty of restored cars from the States and Europe. The registry is also a club with its own newsletter and help areas for those looking for advice, spares or a good parts dealer. Well worth a visit for Type 34 nuts, and those who want to find out more about this unique car.

Other VW Web Sites

World Wide VW Web

More stuff on the web this month, this time concentrating on the performance air cooled scene. Next month I want to showcase great water cooled sites so if any readers can point my browser in the right direction write in or e-mail wheelspin@ltv-vwc.com putting VW Links in the subject header.

Der Kliener Panzers

http://www.ks.u-net.com/panzers.htm
Bold, in-y'r-face design says it all, this club is one for the not so shy! In their words, "DKPIII is open to clean fast Street VWs in the spirit of the original California Look" The site hosts the 'California Look Forum' and although the background makes reading the test hard going, it is well supported with current postings. THE place to go for Cal-look info & tech. The pages are L-o-n-g but without too many graphics they load fairly quickly.

Stateside iMagazine

Another US VW site, bringing you the VW Magazine Online. Well presented with a clean and clear layout it was easily navigated giving an up to date view of the Scene in the USA. The larger images were worthy of the www (World Wide Wait!) Over 100 pages to paw through and I suspect most of that content will change monthly :))

Big Bores and Burning Rubber

www.johnmaherracing.co.uk
John Maher Racing. A well established name in the world of performance VWs and the site reflects this too - Here you'll find the ?Performance Guide for the aircooled Volkswagen', a parts store, The message board was well supported and was packed with performance & parts issues. This one is for the power hungry among you and is well worth a fully service. 800+ images adding up to 5Mb and over 1,000 pages should keep you entertained.

Dark and Slick -Volkszone UK

www.volkszone.com
undefinedYou are greeted with a heavily graphic home page stating "Welcome to The UK’s No.1 aircooled website" ... ummm?? It uses Frames and lots of tables & graphics to present a professional layout and keep navigation very simple but this does mean you may require a good connection speed and up-to-date browser but it's not surprising as they are advertising their own Web Design services. LTV was missing from the list of clubs ->> Black mark there !!! There is a superb Classified add section for those of you with money to burn. OK, it was slick. Nice one Volkszone.
